something i’ve noticed. people seem to think the most nature-y nature is forests. so forests are always prioritized for conservation, and planting trees is synonymous with ecological activism. my state was largely prairies and wetlands before colonization. those ecosystems are important too. trees aren’t the end-all be-all of environmentalism. plant native grasses. protect your wetlands.

deserts also!!! it sucks so bad that people think of desert as ‘wasteland’ just because it’s not suited for western european style ag development, they’re beautiful and delicate and valuable ecosystems and, i think it’s good to point out that humans have been living willingly in them for thousands of years

I haven’t yet seen a tumblr post with these resources so I am making my own and hoping it shows up in the tags. I ASK EVERYONE WHO SEES THIS TO PLEASE REBLOG THIS.

THE INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT (ICWA) IS UNDER ATTACK. AND WE NEED HELP TO PROTECT IT USING THE RESOURCES BELOW.

I am not going to go into heavy detail on the bill, on its history, anything like that, the resources have a lot of information, but as a little bit of background:

It is a bill passed that forbids Native children from being adopted by non-Native families. This is for a good fucking reason, there have been historically large scoops of children taken from their Native families, at a much higher rate than white children (see the 60s scoop in Canada). These children are often abused in these homes, and their entire culture is taken from them (many end up not even knowing what tribe/nation they came from), hence the point of why they were taken in the first place (forced assimilation). Now, this does still happen through the foster care system, but this has protected in the case of adoption. It makes it that only Native families can adopt Native children.

White people hate this and have been smearing it for years (think of the whole Lexi Choctaw/Alexandria P. situation, which was so fucked how they used that little girl). Now, the state governments of Texas, Louisiana, and Indiana have taken it to the Supreme Court to be ruled unconstitutional. This case is called Haaland v. Brackeen. Because white people … really want to steal Native children. This is being heard by the court, oral arguments start WEDNESDAY. ICWA could be overturned in the matter of weeks or even days.

PLEASE USE ALL OF THESE TO PROTECT ICWA:

Petition that will involve you sending messages to your Congressional leaders through their text automated system, only available to those in the US (BUT NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CITIZEN, OR ELIGIBLE TO VOTE TO SIGN, JUST NEED TO BE IN THE US):

https://resist.bot/petitions/PCCPGW

Petition to send a message to President Biden and leaders at the Department of Justice, this does have a place to put in your country so seems like it may be available for those outside of the US but I am unsure (consider also donating to the Lakota People’s Law Project if you are able to):

https://action.lakotalaw.org/action/protect-icwa

Petition to be sent to the Attorney General and Secretary of the Department of the Interior, since it is through change.org it likely can be signed from outside of the US:

https://www.change.org/p/protect-the-indian-child-welfare-act

PLEASE SIGN AS MANY AS YOU ARE ABLE TO. PLEASE REBLOG IF YOU SEE THIS. PLEASE HELP US PROTECT ICWA.

Buying overpriced quartz from a New Age shop in hopes that it will ~heal~ you isn’t really all that different from giving money to a Christian televangelist faith healer for the same reasons, imo. A scam that flavors itself as feminist and countercultural is still a scam.

tbh if anything the televangelist has a stronger case, in the Russel’s Teapot sense where we can’t actually prove this guy doesn’t talk directly to God. but the crystal healer people are making claims about Energies and Vibrations, which are like, physical things, which you’d be able to measure. If the crystals were actually vibrating, that would be heat!

We spent the 20th century figuring out everything about minerals with Energies And Vibrations and can say with some confidence that Energies And Vibrations coming from rocks is Bad For You, Actually.

u don’t like kitty and puppy? 🐈 meow? 🐕 bark?

Beyond parody that conservatives see a study saying “perhaps we should provide animal companionship to college kids?” and immediately respond with “NOOO PUNISH THEM! HURT THEM! SLAP THEM!”

Their whole ideology is built on normalized cruelty to the point that having cats give college kids some semblance of companionship and affection seems like a radical act that they cannot abide. Like, jesus christ. If you saw a kid asking their parents for a pet and the parents said they should get a slap instead so they don’t turn into a “beta”, you would not think that’s okay or normal. You’d probably recognize pretty quickly that that is abuse and you’d probably call CPS on those parents if you could.

already got a blazed marvel post. the adpocalypse is closer than we think so heres your daily PSA

don’t interact with corporate tumblr accounts

yes even to dunk on them. i don’t care if you have the sickest burn of the century lined up, don’t even give them the time of day

the eventual and inevitable fall of twitter marks a change in the advertising industry, and tumblr is unclaimed territory. if we want tumblr to remain the social media bastion it has become, it needs to remain as unappealing to corporations as possible. do not engage. in a marketing strategist’s eyes, any kind of attention is good attention. don’t “silence, brand” them. don’t kungpowpenis them. don’t send them hate anons. don’t hate-follow them. corporate tumblrs are not a single entity and they will not be harassed off this site. we only have a shot at repelling them because of tumblr’s lack of an algorithm. so turn off recommended posts on your dashboard, put it chronological order, and install an adblocker. if you don’t seek out these blazed posts and actively ignore them when they happen upon you, the corporations will starve. in this case, the best kind of protest is a silent one

This tweet is so much funnier now. The whole backstory of Bioshock is that Andrew Ryan, the guy Musk is quoting here, started a city entirely to be a libertarian paradise, but the moment someone else was successful enough to compete with him he made himself a dictator, seized all their assets, and began killing anyone who challenged him. He’s a character defined by his hypocrisy, constantly giving speeches like this about freedom and people pursuing their ambitions without limitation, but throwing all of those beliefs away as soon as they start to inconvenience him.

You know, kind of like a billionaire who buys a social media site, calls himself a “free speech absolutist”, announces that “comedy is legal now”, then blocks or bans all of his critics and changes the rules to limit satire.
